Barratt Homes Unveil The First Large-Scale Zero-Carbon Emissions Community.

Barratt homes unveiled the first images of the first large-scale zero carbon emissions community ever to be build in Britain.

The scheme near Bristol will include 195 homes and will meet the highest level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The development is set to be ready for the first residents to move in early 2011. It will comprise one-bedroom flats through to five-bedroom houses and at least a third of the homes will be affordable.

A statement from the housebuilder adds that: “the first large-scale zero-carbon community in the country is on course to be completed a full three years ahead of the government’s target for all new housing to be zero carbon by 2016.”

“The community will be set in 12 acres of outstanding physical environment with water features, gardens and orchards running through the heart of the development. The homes themselves are spacious and comfortable and the south-facing orientation of many will maximize sunlight.”

The zero-carbon energy uses a biomass combined heat and power plant to provide carbon neutral electricity for all the homes and commercial spaces.
